The third week in October (14th-20th) has been declared National Veterinary Technician Week. This has been an annual tradition since 1993. This year marks the 20th anniversary of National Veterinary Technician Week. The theme this year is being TECH savy T echnicians E ducators C aregivers H ealers. The goal of this week is to:
Educate the public about veterinary technicians and what they do
Reinforce the value and professionalism of veterinary technicians
Provide an opportunity for veterinary technicians to encourage one another for excellent work ethic and team building
Acknowledge our quality relationship with veterinarians and other veterinary professionals
Veterinary Technicians and assistants play a vital role in the veterinary hospital. A registered veterinary technician or assistant can be compared with that of a registered nurse or nurses assistant. They are responsible for everything in a veterinary hospital except diagnosing, prescribing and performing surgery. A technician is the one drawing your pet's blood, placing I.V. catheters, ICU care, surgical assistant, exam room nurse, client educator, care and compassion when your pet is in the hospital (the list could go on and on). A technician is the right hand (or left) of every veterinarian. We want our technicians and all others working in the profession to know that we appreciate everything you do for our doctors, clients and their four legged loved ones. We couldn't do it without you!
Wicomico Veterinary Hospital is looking forward to celebrating the annual commitment every veterinary technician gives to the profession of veterinary technology, veterinary assisting and veterinary medicine. Please take the time to thank each technician for the wonderful job they do for you and your furry companion.
