About Us

When you take your pet to a veterinarian, you are entrusting the health of a family member to the doctors and staff. At Wicomico Veterinary Hospital, we understand the important role that pets play in our lives and we take pride in providing the highest quality medical care, in a friendly, family environment. All of our patients are treated as we treat our own pets; with compassion and gentle hands. Our clients are treated as friends! We listen to your concerns and work with you to achieve the best results for your pets. Our veterinarians and the staff are dedicated to providing the best care utilizing advances in technology to provide the patient and client a happy, loving, and long term relationship.

The most important asset to our hospital is the dedication, expertise, and training that our staff has accomplished. We value the role that our healthcare team contributes to the well being of your pet.

Heather Brooks, D.V.M.
Dr. Brooks grew up in Annapolis, Maryland. She completed her undergraduate studies right here in Salisbury at Salisbury University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1993. She then attended North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Dr. Brooks has roots in equine medicine, but has been dedicated to small animal medicine for the past 15 years. She has owned Wicomico Veterinary Hospital since 2004 and moved us into our new building in 2007. She takes pride in providing our local community with high quality veterinary care paired with a focus on each patient as an individual. Dr. Brooks has taken advanced courses in dentistry and laser surgery techniques. In her spare time, she and Jeremy enjoy going to the beach, paddling, and hiking with their chocolate Labrador Retriever, Fineas, and Landseer Newfoundland mix, Jona. She spends her time at home reading, cooking, and catering to her Scottish Wildcat look-alike, Keagan.

Kristina Elkins
Kris started with Wicomico Veterinary Hospital in February 2009 as a receptionist with no experience in the veterinary field. Since then, she has worked her way through many roles, and has become extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of veterinary care. While her duties now include administrative support, her favorite part of her job is still at the front desk, greeting our two and four-legged friends! Kris is actively involved with training all staff members to uphold the highest standards of customer service and all things involved with veterinary reception. Kris is a compassionate problem-solver, with over a decade of personal investment in our clients and patients. We truly cannot imagine Wicomico Veterinary Hospital without her! Kris is an avid "foodieā€¯ and a fantastic cook. In her spare time she can most often be found in her garden or in her kitchen making something delicious.

Heather McCarthy, R.V.T.
Heather started her journey in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant in 2010 and has been with our practice intermittently since 2012. After a few short adventures in other fields, we are happy to report that as of February 2017, she's back to stay! Heather earned her A.A.S. degree in Veterinary Technology from San Juan College and passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam in 2019. As our technical staff lead, Heather trains all new assistants and technicians and consistently works with all of our staff to stay up-to-date on new developments within the field. Heather has a special interest in making visits less stressful for your pets and has implemented many stress-lowering techniques, especially for our feline patients. At home, Heather has quite the collection of odd pets, which include her hairless Sphynx cat, Tofu, two Australian Green Tree Frogs, Horace and Boris, and many unnamed Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. In her free time, Heather enjoys camping and hiking with her boyfriend, Joe.

Leeann Watkins, R.V.T.
Leeann is a Registered Veterinary Technician, which means that she has completed an American Veterinary Medical Association approved course of study and passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). These requirements are rigorous and cover all aspects of veterinary nursing, surgical monitoring, nutrition, laboratory procedures, and so much more. Leeann earned her associates degree in Veterinary Technology from Delaware Technical College and passed the VTNE in 2013. After graduation she worked as a technician in Delaware for three years prior to joining our practice in December 2016. Leeann is an asset to our practice and truly shines when it comes to all things involved with surgery and monitoring patients during anesthesia. On the weekends, Leeann is enjoying life as a newlywed with her husband Rob. When not being kept busy by her pitbull mix, Jasmine, or her one-eyed cat, Jynx, Leeann loves to spend time reading science fiction novels and listening to country music!

Lillie Phillips
Lillie is currently a senior at Parkside High School and will graduate in June 2019. She joined our practice in May 2017 as a kennel assistant. Lillie comes in each afternoon and is the most important staff member when it comes to keeping our hospital up to the highest standards of cleanliness. As she has learned more about the veterinary field, she has also taken on some assistant duties, such as helping to hold pets for nail trims and other minor procedures. Lillie is always willing to lend a hand with whatever tasks need to be accomplished for the day. After high school, Lillie plans to begin college and work towards becoming a veterinarian. In her spare time, she can be found cooking or listening to music.

Hope Clarke
Hope joined our practice in January of 2018. Although she had never worked in the veterinary field before, she was quick to pick up all of the skills required to be a fantastic veterinary assistant. Hope can be found assisting in appointments, running in-house bloodwork, and helping our technicians and doctor with a multitude of treatments - all while maintaining a contagious positive attitude! She is ambitious and is now working on learning more advanced skills such as venipuncture! Hope graduated from Parkside High School in 2018 and is currently a student at WorWic Community College. She is taking her general education requirements and plans to pursue veterinary assisting and business. On the weekends, Hope can be found attending to and riding her horse, Bella, and also spending time with her boyfriend, Jacob, and their rambunctious black lab, Trax.

Lindsey Glanz
Although Lindsey just officially started in January 2020, you might recognize her as she has been shadowing/volunteering with us for over two years on Tuesday evenings! Lindsey is a Registered Vascular Technologist in the human medical field, but her true passion has always been with animal health. So, she has finally taken the leap into the veterinary field. Lindsey is currently being trained as a veterinary assistant, and has plans to go back to school to work towards becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. She is a quick learner and has a fantastic foundation in biology and anatomy. At home, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her three cats, Foster, Shooter, and Torti, her rescue husky-mix, Luna, and her tiny hamster, Birdie! Lindsey is an active member of our Salisbury community and can be found attending many local events!
